Sauna, Trevarefabrikken – Lofoten

A wooden sauna facing the Lofoten wall

This CLT sauna in a quarry is part of a larger development project together with the culture house, Trevarefabrikken.

Nestled within a serene quarry in Henningsvær, Lofoten, this 15 m² sauna exemplifies minimalist design and environmental consciousness. Constructed entirely from cross-laminated timber (CLT), it effectively stores approximately 16 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents. The use of untreated wood and non-toxic materials underscores its commitment to sustainability. A striking Cor-Ten steel window frame punctuates the structure, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This sauna is a harmonious blend of simplicity and functionality, providing a tranquil retreat in the heart of nature.
